Living on Purpose

Do you ever feel like you’re living your life on auto pilot? Do your days blur one into the other without stopping to pause.... not thinking about the ‘big picture’, without being present, without having a plan, a goal, or purpose? How many days, weeks, months, or years go by with us just getting up in the morning, going to work, coming home and going to bed just to do it all over again? Sometimes we substitute ‘purpose’ with ‘goals’ and we think obtaining a better car, a bigger house, better clothes is what will fulfill us. We wind up chasing dollars instead of chasing dreams. We find ourselves finding loneliness instead of finding purpose.

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way”. Dr. Wayne Dyer

Living on purpose means creating intention for our life. It means knowing where we’re headed and being present with where we are.

It also means being yourself; being your true authentic self. In order to do that you need to be honest. You need to tell the truth. You need to let go of the barriers, let go of the lies, and change the recording in your head about who you are. And let me tell you, this is not easy! Data in the form of verbal and nonverbal messages from parents, family, friends, and teachers at a young age forms a big part of our self-concept. If the first time I attempted public speaking someone influential to me told me I was horrible at it, what would be the chances I would want to try it again as an adult?

Each of us has a unique gift to bring to this world, a purpose worth discovering. What has been standing in your way? What ‘story’ have you been telling yourself? Maybe something like ..... “I’m not good enough”, or “I’m not worthy”? You can change those sabotaging statements into positive affirmations and gently nudge yourself out of your cozy comfort zone towards your purpose.

Switching out of autopilot, being present, and changing the ‘story’ inside our heads all help to create a life on purpose.
